2025 Progressive Series

REGGAETON can be traced to a musical “riddim” of music originating in Jamaican reggae. In the 1980’s, a Panamanian artist, El General, added spanish rap over these rhythms, creating a new genre known as, “reggae en espanol”. This sound caught fire in Puerto Rico, where more musical genres were added into the mix and put on the map by artists like Daddy Yankee. Reggaeton was the new sound coming out of the late 90s and is still on the rise in popularity, on a global scale. The dance is a response to the music and is a sensual mix of Latin, Hip Hop, Dancehall, and Caribbean styles. Originally a social street dance it can also be danced without a partner. This is a 6 week progressive series with limited drop in spots available each week. Open to all levels. (15 spots)

SHUFFLE DANCE is a rave dance done to electronic music, that developed in the 1980’s in Melbourne Australia. The dance moves involve a fast heel and toe movement, combined with a variation of Hip Hop’s “running man”, along with shuffling the feet inwards and outwards, matching arm movements, to the beat of the music. Essentially a freestyle club/rave style, Shuffle’s influences include Hip Hop, House, Rave dance, and Jazz dance. While Melbourne shuffle was growing, the UK was developing a sub genre, referred to as “cutting shapes”, which is largely different in style, technique, and history. This is a registered, 6 week progressive class, so taking the full session is recommended. Drop ins will be available depending on space. (15 Spots)

HOUSE is a club style that began with the birth of House music in Chicago in the late 70’s. As Chicago continued to evolve it’s style of dance and music, House vibes spread to New York where their own dance style emerged. NYC house dance has diverse influences including Hip Hop, Latin, Tap, African, Jazz, and Martial arts. While Chicago House and New York House styles are different and unique to each community, the feeling of House music is universal. The dance is one of love and inclusion, with an essence that is free and a vibe that is uplifting. AYA SOL House Classes teach with respect to the history, community, culture and pioneers of this style.
